Foundation is a six-week journey through the essential doctrines of the Christian faith found in Hebrews 6:1–3. Together, we'll explore repentance, water baptism, Spirit baptism, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
Whether you're a new believer or have walked with Christ for years, this group will strengthen your understanding of God's Word, answer foundational questions, and help you develop a faith that is grounded, confident, and built to last.
What are some beliefs or ideas in today’s culture that can weaken a person’s faith foundation if they are not grounded in God’s Word?
The Leaning Tower of Pisa had a beautiful appearance but a faulty foundation. In what ways can a person look spiritually healthy on the outside while having weaknesses in their spiritual foundation?
Paul told Timothy, “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine” (1 Timothy 4:16). Why does what we believe matter so much, and how does doctrine affect the way we live every day?
Which of these foundation-building elements do you need to strengthen most in your life right now: teaching, spiritual practices, community, the Holy Spirit, faithfulness over time, or perseverance through suffering? Why?
When you hear the phrase "dead works," what comes to mind? How did this lesson expand or challenge your understanding of what Hebrews 6:1 means?
Why do you think repentance from dead works is listed before faith toward God? What does that order teach us about the Christian life?
What are some "dead works" that people today might trust instead of Christ? Consider both obvious sins and things that seem good, like religious activity, success, or self-reliance.
Have you ever found yourself trying to earn God's approval through your performance instead of resting in His grace? What did that look like, and how did it affect your relationship with God?
This week, what is one area where God may be inviting you to turn from something that cannot give life and place your trust more fully in Him? What practical step can you take in response?
How would you describe faith?
Why would someone struggle to believe that God is?
If we are all given a measure of faith, then what happens to it?
It appears from this scripture that our faith can diminish. What can cause the diminishing of our faith?
What can we do to see our faith in God grow, and to simply trust Him more?
Share some high points of faith that you have experienced.
Galatians 3:27-28 says baptism is like "putting on Christ." What does it mean to put on Christ in your life? How does this help you live different?
Romans 6:4 talks about being "buried" so we can "walk in newness of life." Talk about a time in your own life when you've felt God helping you leave behind or bury something.
The message mentions people saying "I felt so heavy, but now I feel so light" after baptism. Have you ever experienced that kind of relief after finally dealing with something you'd been carrying?
Who in your life might need to hear about what baptism has meant to you? What would it look like to share that with them this week?
The lesson emphasized that water baptism cleanses the "vessel," while Spirit baptism transforms the "soul." Why do you think God designed salvation to include both water baptism and Spirit baptism rather than just one?
Acts 2:38, John 3:5, and Acts 1:8 all connect receiving the Holy Ghost with a changed life. What changes have you personally experienced—or hope to experience—as you grow in the Spirit?
The lesson described Spirit baptism as a "moment that changes your direction." How have you seen the Holy Spirit give someone new power, peace, boldness, or victory in everyday life?
If someone asked you, "Why is receiving the Holy Ghost important?" based on this lesson, how would you answer them using Scripture and your own testimony?
Why do you think something as simple as touch can be so meaningful when someone is hurting or needs encouragement?
Have you ever had someone lay hands on you and pray for you? What do you remember about that experience?
What are some situations where you think we should be willing to lay hands on someone and pray for them?
What can help us become more comfortable praying for people in the moment instead of just saying, “I’ll pray for you”?
Why do you think it’s easy for us to get so focused on this life that we forget about eternity?
How does knowing that Jesus defeated death affect the way we can trust Him with the problems we’re facing right now?
The lesson says, “This world truly will never be enough.” What are some things people commonly chase hoping they’ll finally make them satisfied?
If people and souls are our “heavenly treasures,” what are some practical ways we can invest more in people this week?
How often do you think about eternity? Why do you think it’s so easy to go through everyday life without thinking about it?
How should knowing that we will one day give an account to God affect the way we live right now?
The lesson says eternal judgment should create faithfulness, not just fear. What do you think the difference is between those two motivations?
Knowing eternity is real gives us an urgency to reach other people. Who are some people in your life that God may be calling you to pray for, encourage, or reach?
